Trap 1: Poor Liquid Distribution

Structured packing is highly sensitive to liquid maldistribution. If the liquid distributor fails to provide uniform flow across the packing surface, efficiency plummets. Never pair high-performance structured packing with a worn-out or poorly designed distributor. Invest in a high-quality pan or spray distributor.

Trap 2: Incorrect Leveling During Installation

Unlike random packing, structured packing must be perfectly level. Even a 1-degree tilt can cause vapor to bypass the packing on the high side. Use a laser level or spirit level during installation to ensure each layer is perfectly horizontal.

Trap 3: Ignoring Wall Wipers

Vapor tends to channel along the column wall. Without wall wipers, this vapor bypasses the mass transfer zone. Ensure your packing design includes segmented wall wipers that direct the vapor back into the corrugated sheet channels.
